Mount Hood Meadows
On the slopes of Mount Hood in the fall a surprising number of plants are in full bloom. Long, slanting shadows and sunny patches on the hillside dazzle, before another month goes by and it’s all under snow.

A pair of Northern Flickers nest in the neighborhood. This old power pole is so decrepit that the birds regularly find a meal of bugs living in it, create more holes and hasten its decay.

Long Term Parking
Near the Pendleton, Oregon Denny’s Restaurant, just off I-84, an overgrown patch of ground that has collected some trash and an abandoned grocery cart. Unexpectedly beautiful spot.
